No sooner had Kevin Hay departed after putting on a display with his 1/3rd scale Cessna A152 Aerobat and we see a Cessna circling the flying field. All models remain grounded as we watched the aircraft circling. We all gave him a wave and next we see the Cessna coming around on approach for a landing!
The aircraft came over the top of the pine trees at the southern end of the strip with flaps deployed. Yes he was going to land alright! The anticipation was high from all the modellers; who could it be we wondered? Did we encourage him to land? No, it turns out the aircraft was owned and flown by Alan Barnett of Alan Barnett Fishing from Bridport (NE Tasmania). He had called the Youl family, owners and very kind landlords of our site, to gain clearance to land. It turns out that Andrew and Audrey Youl had a birthday party organised for one of their children and Alan dropped in to take the children for a flight! No jumping castles here!
The aircraft was originally built in 1959 and first registered in Australia in May 1987
