Saturday, November 15 was
the date for the first pattern event of the year, however the conditions
were less than favourable with wind gusting up to 45kph.
Fortunately the wind direction was North > South; straight down the
strip. This did deter the diehard fans. Kevin Hay, Terry Pearson
and
CD
Chris Climeck
decided
to brave
the
wind and
prove
it
was flyable
for
their
models.
Andrew McEntyre had a new smaller pattern model and wisely left his
on the ground.
Greg Robertson on the other hand thought the pilots
who were prepared
to fly were more "foolhardy" than "diehard". However those that flew
showed some
exceptional skills in the conditions. With The strong northerly wind,
the vertical climbs had a very distinct, southerly drift to them! Due
to the small number of
entrants an informal competition was held. All in all a lot of fun was
had. A lighthearted moment was when Andrew McEntyre was carrying Terry
Pearson's
Giles out to the strip. The wind was so stron it blew Andrews hat off
and straight into the Giles's prop, shattering it!
Chris Climeck jokingly offered some cyano
but
Terry declared the prop was irrepairable. "No" cried
Chris, "not for your prop.... it's to glue the hat onto Andrew's head!"
Some other photos are from
the mid week flyers, showing Terry Pearson, despite rumours to the
contrary, had not retired the Liberty Sport in favour of his
Giles 202 pattern plane with Terry declaring that the Liberty is still
his favourite aeroplane to fly! Greg Robertson brought out his (new)
old timer the Playboy Senior.
